Welcome to Kingfishers Class.
We are a mixed class of Year 5 and Year 6 pupils and our Class Team members are Mrs Berry (Class Teacher) and Mr Malder (Learning Mentor).
This year we are excited to be implementing the 'Talk for Writing' program to encourage both the children's reading and creative writing by developing their interest in books and learning how they are structured. We believe that reading is vital for the children to develop both their vocabularies and passion to learn, we encourage the children to read at home for 10 minutes a day, this can range from a newspaper to cooking instructions.
We are following the White Rose Maths approach, working on mastery to ensure the children can answer questions correctly, with the ability to explain why that is the answer and justify their thinking. This skill will also support their development in Science, by learning how to reason and prove a theory.
The children have weekly spellings and maths activities. Homework is set every two weeks and the children can choose which tasks to complete.
We enjoy weekly ICT, PE, Foreign Languages and Topic lessions to cover both History and Geography.
We also have daily class talks about the news and take PHSE very seriously to support the children's holistic development, social skills and mental health.
As a class we enjoy going on education visits. So far we have visted the places below, please click onto a logo for copies of our trip letters.
To help with your child's education in these uncertain times, we will be setting work for the pupils of Kingfishers to complete during a 2 week period.
We have created a timetable for you to use as a guide, to help structure your child's working day.
